Appears as a drive icon, next to the floppy drive icon, like a card reader would. Beware the "ambiguous disc name" pitfall if you change media in mid-session. Cards formatted in the camera tend to all be called "untitled", so it's a good plan to explicitly rename them. |

The other C-750 entry states this to be a 4.22 megapixel model; in fact it has only 4.0 effective megapixels, as stated on the camera itself. Also worth noting is that this camera works well with 512Mb xD cards, although the manual only claims it to work with up to 256Mb cards. This is an outstandingly good camera. Official price £450 but can currently be found for as little as £319 inc. VAT (Digital Depot). |

Price: 220 When attached, this camera displays a slightly annoying selection screen that requires you to choose whether you want to connect to a computer ("PC") or to a printer, or to cancel the connection, so it's not quite as quick to hook up as other models that lack this screen. (I.e. at least one keypress is required.) But it works fine with RISC OS 5.06. |
| Olympus C-8080 Wide Zoom |
Top-end Olympus compact model with professional quality Zuiko lens and 8.0 megapixel CCD (native resolution is 3264 x 2448 pixels); 5x optical zoom, lots of features and fantastic quality Software required: SCSISoftUSB
Support: none
Price: 600 Very fast and impressive camera. Works fine with RISC OS 5.06. Note that this camera can use two cards simultaneously and you can swap between them with a single keypress. Formats are xD and CompactFlash (one of each). However, in order to transfer files from the CompactFlash card to the computer, the xD card must first be removed. (It would be nice if two drives mounted at once, but this appears to be a limitation of the camera, not of RISC OS; the situation is the same on PC and Mac.)

Aluminium-cased 5.25" external enclosure providing a USB-ATAPI bridge and external PSU. Allows IDE harddiscs and CD/DVD drives to become USB2 devices and not to rely on the host machine for their power requirements. Software required: SCSISoftUSB (None) Device supplier: Allcam
Support: none
Price: 29.00 GBP (May 2005, including firewire too). Less for USB2 only. Works fine with IDE harddiscs. Once formatted with SCSIForm to Filecore format, they appear as SCSI drive =>4. Transfer speed around 2.5M/s with USB2.
IYONIX does not see the drive if using an optical drive, perhaps due to lack of CDFSSoftSCSI?
Tested also with Windows ME and OpenBSD 3.7 with a DVD/RW and works well with both under USB2.
May work (but untested) with DOS format discs but would need to be < 2G due to ImageFS limit. Shows as Prolific CD-R3-U2FW USB-ATAPI bridge. |

Price: £9.99 or £7.99 if ordered online at www.pcworld.co.uk for pickup at the store My digital camera, a Canon PowerShot A400 purchased from Jessops for £100, uses SD cards to store its photos. I plug the SD/MMC card reader into a front USB socket of my IYONIX (RISC OS 5.09) and the icon appears on the icon bar. Clicking on it opens a filer window (just like with your hard drive or a floppy disc) and from there you can transfer the camera's JPEG files by dragging and dropping. Catalogue No. PCL-CR400 |
