FAQ

I can't download the ROM update even with IyoUpWtch loaded
Ensure you are using at least version 0.18 of the official AcornURI module or at least version 1.03 of Christian Ludlams implementation. Use *Help AcornURI to check.

How do I force a CMOS reset?
Press F12 then type at the * prompt, *FX 162,&fe,0
Use this with caution.

I often get DiscError 23 following a restart of the machine.
If you have configured the machine for no floppy drives this has been seen on some machines. Configure the machine for 1 floppy (*configure floppies 1). If no floppy drive is present this will be autodetected.

I have started get DiscError 23 but my machine never used to do this.
The disc transfer subsystem can be sensitive to mis behaviour of the power supply. As a guide, if the 5 volt rail (red to black) has shifted down from 5.06v +/- 0.03v (on a digital multimeter), then your power supply may be the cause.

I have installed a new DVD drive and now the CD drive is often not seen.
Ensure the riginal CDRW is set as Master, with the DVDRW as Slave on the same cable. The other way around causes the CD to only reliably be seen following power on or hardware reset.

I have started get intermittant networking but my machine never used to do this.
The network interface can be sensitive to mis behaviour of the power supply. As a guide, if the 5 volt rail (red to black) has shifted down from 5.06v +/- 0.03v (on a digital multimeter), then your power supply may be the cause.

Why do I get the message 'No keyboard present - autobooting' when I switch on my Iyonix?
If the keyboard is connected and works correctly once the machine has finished booting this message can be ignored. It simply means the keyboard did not respond fast enough when first switched on.

Why am I getting the error 'Filing system ADFS: must be given a filename'
If !PipeDream is run and Aemulor is not configured to handle it you will get this error.
Drag !PipeDream to Aemulor on the icon bar so Aemulor will know about it.

What should I have in my PreDesk Directory
As standard the PreDesk directory should contain the following:

  • !!DeepKeys
  • !+Resource (Loads high colour Wimp icons)
  • !Country
  • ARPlayer
  • Configure (Monitor configuration)
  • DALimit
  • Interim (Used for loading replacement modules such as USB)
  • LoadUSB2 (only present on machines with USB2 installed)
  • NewLook
  • SetupNet
  • SoftSCSI (Drivers for mass storage class USB devices)
Other files such as SndSetup and DiscSetup are created by !Configure

My reset button doesn't work any more.
Check the reset cable has not come adrift. It should be located on PL301 across pins 15 and 16

My bank site has stopped letting me in....
The T/TCP protocol has been a 'beta' protocol for many years. Some banks have recently installed routers that will not accept this. The RISC OS Internet stack can be instructed to avoid this protocol with the following line(s) added to the end of the !Boot.Choices.Internet.User obey file.

|Switch off T/TCP protocol
sysctl -ew net.inet.tcp.rfc1644=0

I've changed something in boot and now my keyboard and mouse do not work.
Start the Iyonix while holding down the shift-key on the keyboard to get to the Desktop with out running boot. Not all USB keyboards will respond fast enough for this to work, in this case press the Esc key as soon as the keyboard num-lock light comes on to abort the boot process.
You should then look at in !Boot to see what is stoping it from completing. USB is often loaded from !Boot.Choices.boot.PreDesk.Interim

I keep seeing the error 'Repeat SWI &4258B Not known' during the Predesk stage of boot.
There is something being run in the Predesk stage of !Boot that is causing an error. You should look in !Boot.Choices.Boot.PreDesk and remove the offending component.

What are the connections on the rear of the USB card
Connector J1 carries 3 additional USB ports.

The connector is arranged as follows (note the missing pin location):
Power1 1 2 Power2
D1- 3 4 D2-
D1+ 5 6 D2+
Ground1 7 8 Ground2
Shield1 9 10 Shield2
12 Shield3
Ground3 13 14 D3+
Power3 15 16 D3-

I've got USB 2 installed and now my keyboard will not work via my USB2 hub
Ensure you are running at least version 0.14 of EHCIDriver.
The latest version will always be availble from the USB2 support site

How do I know which ports on my Iyonix support USB2
There are two physical USB busses, USB1 devices will attach to either bus depending upon where they are physically connected. USB2 is a third virtual bus that covers both physical busses so a USB2 device can automatically attach itself to the USB2 bus which ever connector it is attached to.
USB2 devices will only attach to the USB2 bus if the are connected directly to the Iyonix or connected via another USB2 hub.
