SCSI device drivers from a variety of suppliers are already available for the following SCSI devices, and these have been or will soon be reworked for the IYONIX pc:
SCSI through the PCI expansion bus makes best use of the enormous bandwidth and capability of bus mastering over the 64-bit wide bus, whilst SCSI podule cards can take advantage of the new faster podule slots (backplane required).
NOTE: SCSI podule cards will need revised and updated RISC OS drivers;
please consult your SCSI podule card manufacturer. Podule cards can be EASI, IOC, or MEMC format.
Castle will also distribute example source code for the "SCSISoft" driver layer for the original Acorn SCSI card(s). This software will be supplied as part of the IYONIX pc SCSI package and will illustrate how easy it now is to write SCSI drivers using a slim "SCSISoft" driver layer in a similar manner to that of the IYONIX pc CD system. The Acorn SCSI card drivers will be ready soon and support for Castle SCSI cards will be available shortly.
Support for other SCSI cards will be up to their developers using the tools provided by Castle.
Developers wishing to receive details of the SCSI API will shortly find everything available free to download from:http://www.iyonix.com/32bit/SCSI.shtml
This addition of SCSI to RISC OS makes development of drivers for SCSI interfaces and other SCSI devices much easier. This ensures that IYONIX pc users can now benefit from being able to use high speed SCSI devices on their IYONIX pc systems.
SCSI support for Mass Storage Devices on the IYONIX pc:
This is a free upgrade for all existing IYONIX pc users and will shortly be distributed through the IYONIX pc update system. Please note that a suitable SCSI card will be needed (podule or PCI).
Castle's all-new 32-bit IYONIX pc - THE WORLD'S FIRST XSCALE DESKTOP COMPUTER - will be shown with a range of SCSI devices at the Wakefield RISC OS show on the 10th May 2003. IYONIX pcs will be available to purchase at this event.
